General Dynamics Land Systems–Australia was established in 2000 to support the growing fleets of GDLS products in the region. In Australia, the Army operates a fleet of 257 LAV II 8x8 ASLAV Armoured Fighting Vehicles and a fleet of 57 M1A1 Main Battle Tanks. In New Zealand, the Army operates a fleet of 105 LAV III 8X8 NZLAV Light Armoured Vehicles.
General Dynamics Land Systems commitment to local industry includes delegation of project, engineering and manufacturing authorities to General Dynamics Land Systems – Australia in support of the roles of local Prime Systems Integrator and Product Support Integrator. This has led to ongoing local programs of product and system enhancements, local upgrades in support of operational deployments, and the manufacture of over 400 25mm turrets in Australia mostly for export markets. All these activities leverage our global technology developments where possible.
